Experiment 5 Colour & Texture
For this experiment i will be looking into colour and texture using a music video called “Feels like we only go backwards” from a band called “Tame Impala” directed by Becky and Joe
The style of music used in this video is called psychedelic rock which the videos transitioning from on scene to the next.
This music video made by Becky and Joe is a 2D animation, the colours mainly shown are flat primary colours (red, yellow, blue so on) using liquid paint and clay as the texture for this animation.
Using the Becky and Joe website i was able to get an insight on how they made some of the 2D animation.
It looks like the majority of this animation was made frame by frame like the standard way of creating 2D animation
In this animation they’ve used colours that standout from each other and look prominent.
As part of this experimentation i used my own head shape and try to create the animation in a frame by frame sequence using flat duller colours and see if the colours are still appropriate for this style of animation for this song.
From analysis these steps i can say using this colour pallet it has made it more difficult to be engaged with the animation because there isn’t nothing lively about with no vivid colour not really giving it the whole psychedelic feel.
what I've learned from both analysis is colour pallet is important especially if you are trying to visualise psychedelic rock through colour and texture. However texture isn't necessarily needed but it helps create a depth of field which draws you in more towards the animation.
Even though the animation flows along the melodic rhythm of this song its more of the animation its self, that gets the attention. Because the song just melts away at your ears, which the animation does as you're mesmerised by psychedelic adventure as each scene forms with one another creating a constant flowing visual scene.
